New work is coming in!

Posted by Kimberly Hall on

All week we are uploading new work from some of our favorite artists and makers. We have message paintings on rocks by Martha Rich, merit badges for grown ups by So + So, and tiny sculptures by MacKenzie Minis. There will be some exciting studio work coming in too (seen the samples and CANNOT WAIT). Keep checking in as we get the shop all spiffy for the holidays. Happy Thanksgiving y'all. Keep it real this holiday season.

Did we tell you about the photo shoot?

Posted by Shrink Ray on

As part of our collaboration, we set up a little photo shoot and thought we'd share some of the shots. Despite it being blazing hot, everyone had a blast and we couldn't be more thankful for the creativity and energy the kids brought to the photos. The unitards were the favorite of the group and a few of them covered the Ants Pants into hats!

PAOM Endowment, our application

Posted by Kimberly Hall on

We were at a trade show in Paris last September when we first came up with the idea for Shrink Ray. The idea was to create a shop that focuses on small things or perhaps even really big things (Shrink Ray's go in reverse) and overall could focus on the little things in life. We also half joked that it would be the perfect name for a line of kids clothes. When I saw that Print All Over Me created an Endowment to support artists and designers, I knew this would be a chance to push this Shrink Ray idea forward. I've ordered garments from Print All Over Me as soon as I discovered them as part of my print and pattern work for Nottene and loved the silhouettes that PAOM offers which ended up giving us a lot of ideas for prints. You can see from the sketches here that the final work evolved, even the photoshoot really changed the aesthetic of the collection. Having the kids wearing the clothes and experiencing the prints changed the whole vibe of it. I think that was the best part!

Many thanks to PAOM

A Few Thoughts..

Posted by Shrink Ray on

After a tiny bit of hard work (ha), our online shop is now open. We started Shrink Ray with the observation that people love small things. We wondered why this was. Sure, the small things matter, but really everything matters, right? Big things count. New jobs, moving across state lines, new friendships forged. Big, important stuff. But as the big stuff happens, our feelings are informed and memories preserved through the details.

Doing the dishes, staring out the window of a train, how you say hello to someone on the street— a lot can happen in those few seconds. The smell of the soap is what you will remember when you got that important call. The smallest, most mundane, routine aspects of life are really important and deserve more attention.

The things you have around your house form the memories of a place. Which things do you remember and why? Which have a story behind them? As kids we don't always remember the gift but we remember the playing with the box.  A mannequin hand, a brass number 7, a used strobe light, a tomato tie-- not the top of your wish list by any means, but in the end they were really the best.

We hope you find some small moments in our shop. Small moments to share, and that become part of the bigger story in your life. Thanks for spending a little time here.
